🟢 → SMA inverters have been evolving over the years, generation by generation.

🟢 → Blinking Green Light indicates inverter is turning ON.

🔵 → A Blue indication is for communication.

🔴 → A Red Indication is for warning and error.

The new model SMA inverters are equipped with WIFI, so the user can login to the device page and can check the device status. This avoids the need to get near the inverter to know the status. Also this ensures reliability. The device can be configured using the same.

How Communication happens with the SMA Inverter

SMA inverters communication employs TCP based protocol. In simple terms, TCP communication is transferring data over the internet. It is the most widely used protocol for data transmission in communication networks such as the internet.

The inverter can be accessed in two ways,

  1. Through LAN cable
  2. Through WIFI.

 

Steps to access the SMA inverter through LAN

STEP 1:

To access the device over the LAN network, first the user must know the IP Address of the inverter. SMA inverter comes with a default address 169.254.12.3 to access the device.

STEP 2:

Before accessing the device, ensure your computer network IP is in DHCP. This can be checked by accessing your Network control panel.

STEP 3:

Ensure it obtains an IP automatically and close the window.

STEP 4:

Now open your browser and in the address bar type the device IP address, default it will be in 169.254.12.3

STEP 5:

Now you will see a warning page , click on advanced and move on to proceed.

STEP 6:

The Inverter login page will open up, if you are a user select the User and enter the default password – 0000. If you are an installer and you are commissioning the device for the first time, select Installer and enter the installer password (Default Password is 1111).

Steps to access the SMA inverter through WiFi

STEP 1:

To access the device over WIFI, turn on WIFI on your mobile/ laptop and check for the available WIFI network list and select the SMA device you want to access, the WIFI network will be displayed as, “SMA”.

STEP 2:

The password of this network will be given as WPA 2 PSK which will be right below the inverter serial number.

STEP 3:

After connecting your mobile / laptop WIFI to your SMA device WIFI network now you can access the inverter device info by opening your browser.

STEP 4:

Open your browser and in the address bar type the address as “192.168.12.3” this is the default IP address of SMA device for accessing through WIFI.

STEP 5:

Now you will be asked to login in order to check the device info and stats. Provide the User/ Installer password to access your device.
